To show our love for Christ, we show that we know what Christ did and what his accomplishments provided for us; and this understanding, as it is revealed in our hearts, teaches us that love is the utmost commandment: Love God before anything and love thy neighbor. Knowing these things, and understanding God’s will for manking, shows us that God loves us dearly.
We can not truly love without knowing God; for any love that does not come from a forgiving heart is not Christ’s love; but it is vanity. The love of cars and money and life is an earthly love and does not require the knowledge of Christ. To obtain the love that Christ has taught, you must understand the love He had for us and realize that it was this love — this perfect love, which only comes from heaven — that gave Christ courage to do His Father’s will; for a forgiving and unconditional love is a love that no emotion or passion can hinder.
Our understandings of God’s promises allows us to peek into God’s unconditional love for us. We learn that God sent Jesus for us as a promise, we learn that God sent His message through Abraham as a promise and in the form of promises, we learn that through Abraham the will of God was made known; and it is through the understanding of these promises that we learn the meaning of life.
Have you ever heard someone ask, “what is the meaning of life?” Well, the answer is simple: To do God’s will, just as Jesus did.
And it is so beautiful once realized! Once the point of Jesus’ life, ministry, and death are understood, then suddenly God’s promises acts in the Old Testament come to light. you might even say, “Wow, God did all of that just so I could go to heaven,” or “Jesus died on the cross so that I would not have to die for my sins.” Oh, it is beautiful once seen through the eyes of love.
I think 1 john 4:17 says it best and this also Ps 121:2-3
